hero, or sidekick? comments very much appreciated!

My favorite sidekick of all time is Barney Fife from the Andy Griffith show. He is a bumbling, loveable, crazy, oddball and Andy Taylor's right hand man. Andy Taylor, single dad to Opie and Sheriff of Mayberry around the 1960s, is a responsible, witty man who always ends up cleaning up Barney's mess. Whether it be letting stray dogs loose in the middle of nowhere, or accidentally letting two hardened criminals from the county jail loose, Barney has made some big mistakes in his time.
But, everyone who watches the show has learned to love Barney. The definition of awkward, he is still hilarious in his own way.
I see a lot of myself in Barney Fife, and other sidekicks. I can say pretty confidently that I am a sidekick.  I have very talkative friends, and I enjoy the company of very talkative and lively people. I myself am not very talkative. I like to let other people take the lead, as I am often unsure of myself.
Another beloved superhero- Mermaid Man. A self-proclaimed hardcore Spongebob junkie, I know as much about Mermaid Man and Barnacle Boy as Spongebob himself. Thinking of these childhood heroes of mine made me wonder: am I really a sidekick? After all,  Mermaid Man is very much dependent on his sidekick, Barnacle Boy. He needs his advice constantly and relies on him to remember things. So, maybe I am just an elderly superhero? The jury is out on this one.
